Cambodia’s skies are buzzing with change. As the country continues to welcome a surge of international visitors, its brand-new airport projects are setting the stage for a more connected, comfortable, and modern travel experience.

A New Era Begins with Techo International Airport
At the heart of this transformation is Techo International Airport, located just south of Phnom Penh. Expected to begin full operations soon, this massive project replaces the aging Phnom Penh International Airport, offering state-of-the-art facilities designed to handle up to 15 million passengers per year in its first phase.
With sleek architecture inspired by traditional Cambodian motifs, the new airport blends national identity with cutting-edge technology. Travelers can expect faster immigration procedures, improved transport connections, and a smoother transfer experience — all part of Cambodia’s vision to become a regional aviation hub.
Expanding Gateways Beyond the Capital
The aviation boom doesn’t stop in Phnom Penh. Across the country, other key projects are reshaping Cambodia’s travel landscape:
Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport opened in late 2023, providing a modern gateway to the Angkor temples. It’s one of Southeast Asia’s most impressive new airports, equipped to handle 7 million passengers annually, reducing congestion and giving visitors a grander arrival to one of the world’s most iconic heritage sites.
Sihanoukville International Airport has undergone major upgrades, aligning with the city’s transformation into a coastal tourism and investment hub.
Together, these airports form a triangle of connectivity that links Cambodia’s capital, its cultural crown, and its coastal playground — a move that’s set to decentralize tourism and promote regional development.
Boosting Tourism and Business
The government’s goal is clear: make Cambodia easier to reach, and easier to explore. Improved air connectivity is expected to:
Attract new airlines and direct international routes.
Encourage domestic tourism and multi-city travel itineraries.
Strengthen Cambodia’s position in Southeast Asia’s growing travel market.
